Turkmenistan and Afghanistan have agreed to increase the volume of cargo transportation on the Serhetabad — Turgundi railway line, TASS reports.
An agreement on the safe transportation of commercial cargo from Afghanistan in order to improve the management of the Turgundi dry port was reached during a meeting of representatives of the Turkmendermiellary agency with a delegation of the Herat branch of the Afghan Railways Administration.
At the moment, most of the imports to Afghanistan are carried out through the territory of Uzbekistan through a single railway line.
The railway between Turkmen Serhetabad and the Afghan border town of Turgundi was built in 1982. Its length is 5.5 km.
