The governments of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have amended the agreement on mutual visits, which will allow citizens of the two countries to travel to each other on internal documents, the UzA national news agency reported on Friday.

According to the agency, during the state visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kyrgyzstan on January 26-27, the governments of the two countries signed a protocol on amending the agreement on mutual visits of citizens dated October 3, 2006.

“According to the protocol, now all citizens of Uzbekistan will be able to enter Kyrgyzstan, as well as citizens of Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan, with an identity card,” the report says.

At the moment, there is a visa-free regime between the countries, but you can only cross the border with a foreign passport.

The new procedure provides for crossing the border by any mode of transport and may come into force within one to two months after the procedure for approving the changes is completed in both countries, UzA added.
