Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chairman Chong Eason has been named Man of the Year by American automotive magazine MotorTrend, the South Korean automaker announced on its website.

Chang topped the US magazine's prestigious list of the 50 most influential figures in the global automotive industry. In last year's ranking, he took fifth place.

MotorTrend emphasized that the vehicles developed under his leadership are "attractive in design, quality, thoughtful equipment and good value" and that Korean-made vehicles prove superior performance that is increasingly difficult to beat.

Previously, the magazine's automotive critics team named the Genesis G90, also dubbed the "South Korean Maybach" the 2023 Car of the Year, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 the 2023 SUV of the Year.

Genesis is Hyundai's luxury car division. MotorTrend also acknowledged Chong's vision for the electric vehicle market and future mobility, helping Hyundai Motor Group to become a leader in the industry.

“Tesla may have popularized electric cars, but Hyundai Motor Group is making them democratic by flooding the market with a wide variety of models, body styles and price ranges and making them super cool or stunningly gorgeous,” MotorTrend does not skimp on the epithets of MotorTrend.

It is noted that Hyundai Motor, Genesis and Kia plan to add a total of 31 new electric vehicles by 2030, which underlines the automaker's goal of selling about 3.2 million electric vehicles annually by then, which will be 12% of the global market.

“This goes even further with the vision of smart cities that boast multiple mobility solutions, including robots and aircraft in the form of VTOL electric vehicles,” MotorTrend said in the article.
