Kyrgyzstan can turn from an importer into an exporter of electricity, thanks to the implementation of "green" projects and the construction of hydroelectric power plants throughout the country, Sadyr Zhaparov said in his Facebook post.

"With the implementation of these projects, Kyrgyzstan can really be called a non-volatile country that will export electricity to foreign countries. Perhaps if more attention had been paid to this in earlier years, the issue of smog would not be so acute today. We could use more electricity for heating in the autumn-winter period," the head of the Kyrgyz state writes.

At the same time, Zhaparov wrote that Kyrgyzstan's external debt is about $4.2 billion, noting that the republic is ready to "cut the ribbons of green economy facilities" and implement projects in Kyrgyzstan in exchange for writing off the country's external debt.

At the moment, Turkmenistan is one of the largest exporters of electricity to Kyrgyzstan along with Uzbekistan, which also supplies electricity to the neighboring country, generating it from Turkmen gas.
