The heads of the Caspian sea ports gathered in the city of Turkmenbashi to check the course of interaction. On the agenda of the meeting of the leaders included issues of increasing the volumes of cargo transportation and safe navigation, development of port and logistics infrastructure, etc. The representatives of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Russia expressed their views and proposals on the activation of navigation in the Caspian Sea, the point of view on strengthening the importance of the region for the formation of continental traffic flows. This will be facilitated by the adoption of new five-party documents, which are now being negotiated by the parties and are going through peer review. This includes, among other things, the agreement on cooperation between the Caspian countries in the field of transport being prepared for signing. The meeting also considered the experience in the modernization of port facilities and services as a condition for increasing the rating of the Caspian ports. One of these projects is the construction of a new International Port in the city of Turkmenbashi with the connection of the main logistics hubs of the region and the establishment of multimodal transport links through the port. Turkmenistan has already invested more than $ 1.5 billion in this large-scale project.
