Articles of Turkmen scientists in Russian were among the leaders in citation in the CIS
Scientific works of Turkmen scientists written in Russian are cited in the CIS more often than articles by other Russian-speaking researchers from the CIS countries. This indicates their weight, Rossiyskaya Gazeta writes in an analytical article on the state of the Russian language in the CIS countries.
Along with the authors from Turkmenistan, scientific works in Russian by scientists from Armenia, the Baltic States and Moldova are among the leaders in citation.
According to the study, the leader among the countries in terms of the number of Russian-speaking groups of students is Belarus, in which this indicator is 100%, and in terms of the absolute number of students, Kazakhstan holds the championship (197.5 thousand students). It is also noted that in the last decade the number of schoolchildren studying in Russian has begun to increase, especially due to the countries of Central Asia.
In the context of the reduction of qualified Russian teachers in the CIS, the work of the humanitarian project "Russian Teacher Abroad" is noteworthy, which offers Russian-speaking teachers the opportunity to work with foreign children. Since the beginning of its work in 2019, the project has contributed to the training of 10 thousand people.
Russian Research Institute named after Pushkin showed that the language ranks fifth in the world in the list of the leading languages of the planet, surpassing Arabic, Portuguese, German, but inferior to English, Spanish, Chinese and French.
A lot of work is being done in Turkmenistan to teach the Russian language. Russian is a compulsory subject for study in all secondary educational institutions of the country and is taught as a foreign language, and in some schools there are separate classes with instruction only in Russian.
There is also a Joint Turkmen-Russian secondary School named after A.S.Pushkin in Turkmenistan, and two Turkmen universities – the D.Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages and the Magtymguly Turkmen State University are engaged in the training of Russian teachers.
