Rashid Meredov met with the regional Representative of the UN Office for Human Rights
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with the Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia Richard Komenda, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
At the meeting, the parties discussed key aspects of cooperation, including the implementation of the obligations assumed and the implementation of the provisions of the human rights conventions to which Turkmenistan is a party.
In the process, the sides exchanged views on the progress achieved in the dialogue with the UN Special Human Rights Commissioners.
Meredov expressed gratitude to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights for the support of national human rights institutions and confirmed Turkmenistan's interest in improving the capacity of the Human Rights Ombudsman institution, introducing educational programs and holding regional events.
Turkmenistan's interest in participating in significant UN events, including the implementation of the UN Secretary General's Call for Action in the Interests of Human Rights, the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as the 30th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Program of Action, was also indicated.
