The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is studying sustainable transport routes connecting Europe and the countries of the Central Asian "five", the official website of the bank reports.

As part of the study, the EBRD tried to determine the most profitable trans-European route (TEN-T), which would establish sustainable transit between the countries of Central, South and East Asia and Europe.

The article on the research topic notes that the multimodal trans-Afghan route can become one of the most economically viable alternatives to the Northern Corridor. In this context, the problem of the high transit tariff of the Georgian port of Poti was noted, and the potential of Turkmenistan to include the Turkmenbashi International Seaport in the emerging Middle (Trans-Caspian) corridor was also highlighted.

The materials talk about the prospects of the North-South corridor passing through the territory of Turkmenistan, as well as the possibility of involving transit countries in relevant international agreements.

The EBRD points to the need to electrify railway lines, remove trade barriers and expand port infrastructure in order to achieve plans for the formation of alternative transit routes to European countries.
