The authorities of the country decided to extend the winter holidays in schools and universities of Uzbekistan until January 17 due to the impending abnormal cold weather, Uzbek media reports.

The first school day will be January 18. The program of classes will not be affected - lessons in schools and couples in universities, scheduled for the period from January 11 to 17, will be intensively taught during the academic year.

From January 9 to January 15, severe frosts are expected in Uzbekistan – the daytime temperature will drop to 8 degrees, at night to minus 17. The cold will be accompanied by snow and rain.

Extraordinary holidays for this cold period were also announced in kindergartens of Uzbekistan. The Ministry of Preschool and School Education has issued a document stating: "According to the minutes of the relevant meeting of the Government of Uzbekistan, in order to prevent a sharp increase in the incidence of seasonal flu and colds and in connection with a sharp drop in air temperature on January 10-18, 2023, extraordinary holidays were announced in preschool educational institutions."

Thus, Uzbek schoolchildren, students and kindergarten pupils will wait out abnormal frosts at home.
