The cost of gas for German consumers may increase by 112% in 2023

German residents may face an increase in electricity prices by 44% and gas prices by 112% in 2023 due to the global energy crisis, Handelsblatt reports.
"Despite the fact that in the future the federal government will limit energy prices, in January electricity consumers will pay an average of 44% more than in the fall of 2021, when prices in the energy markets began to rise. In the case of gas, even an increase of 112% is expected," the German analytical publication reports.
If earlier German households paid about 40 euro cents per kilowatt-hour, then after the federal government lifted restrictions on setting consumption prices, this figure could double to 80 euro cents.
On average, if an average German family consumes about 4,000 kilowatt-hours, then it will have to pay more than 1.7 thousand euros per year. The above calculation will apply to almost all German energy distributors: 700 gas suppliers and 800 electricity suppliers, as well as about 30 key supra-regional energy companies.
