The role of the Russian language in the CIS cannot be in any doubt
Such a statement was made by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, at an informal CIS summit, noting that the Russian language is of lasting importance in strengthening the linguistic space of the Commonwealth countries and in developing cultural and humanitarian cooperation between states,-TASS reports on Monday.
Kazakhstan's initiative to create, under the auspices of the CIS, an international organization to support the Russian language will receive practical development and this will be facilitated by "granting St. Petersburg the official status of the cultural capital of the Commonwealth in 2023," the head of the Republic of Kazakhstan recalled. The CIS will celebrate the Year of the Russian Language and this event will serve to strengthen humanitarian ties between the CIS countries, - the Russian news agency reports.
