Tokayev stressed the importance of the Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran railway for the CIS

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, speaking at the informal CIS summit in St. Petersburg, called for launching new mechanisms of transport cooperation in the Commonwealth space and noted the importance of the Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran railway.
"New mechanisms and formats of cooperation are needed to increase the efficiency of transport and logistics projects in the CIS space. The North–South international corridor, in which the Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran railway acts as an important transport artery, is of particular importance here. We know that the Russian Federation has also shown practical interest in the implementation of this project. Naturally, this is welcome," Tokayev said.
He also drew the attention of colleagues to the creation of favorable conditions for trade, for which it is necessary to work in detail on the elimination of tariff and non-tariff barriers. "It is necessary to establish cooperation in food security issues," Tokayev said. - The CIS ministerial conference, which will be held in Astana next year, will be devoted to the search for common approaches in this area."
