Turkmenistan giving final touches to preparations for Ashgabat 2017
Nearing the 50-days countdown to Ashgabat 2017, the preparations for the Games are in their final phase. Everything is ready and just the fine details are being reviewed, as was clear during the visit of President Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov to the Olympic Village Tuesday. The Turkmen president inspected the main stadium with capacity for 45000, where the Olympic torch will light up on 17 September 2017 to mark the official start of the Games. He looked at the designs of the sportswear created by the top designers of Turkmenistan. The designs, representing an aesthetic blend of tradition and fashion, included the range of sportswear for the opening and closing ceremonies. Berdymuhamedov made some suggestions for the improvement of designs, pointing out the usefulness of appropriate symbols of Ashgabat 2017 in the designs. On display were also the gift sets for honourable guests, which include sportswear and a leather bag, statuettes of Turkmen Alabai dog and Akhalteke horses, watches with the Games logo, souvenir coins, national bags decorated with traditional ornaments, national headgear and amulets etc. The main facilities have been tested and re-tested several times to make sure that participants and spectators of the Games get memorable experience.
