These days, December 21 and 22, the winter solstice is expected in the world, when the Sun is at the lowest altitude from the horizon, and the longest night and the shortest day are expected.

In Ashgabat, the winter solstice will take place on December 21: the shortest day of this year will be 9 hours and 31 minutes, and the nights will be 14 hours and 28 minutes.

The solstice takes place twice a year — in summer and in winter. At the summer solstice, which took place in the Turkmen capital on June 21, the longest day of the outgoing 2022 passed: its duration was 14 hours 47 minutes, while the shortest night was only 9 hours 12 minutes.
