Turkmen weightlifter wins silver at World Championships in Bogota


Honored Master of Sports of Turkmenistan Rejepbay Rejepov at the World Weightlifting Championship in Bogota, Colombia in the category up to 81 kg won a silver medal in the sum of two exercises with a result of 366 kg. He also has a small gold medal in the clean and jerk and a small silver medal in the snatch.

Rejepov's personal mentor is the head coach of the national team of Turkmenistan Artur Emiryan.

Rejepbay started weightlifting in the Dashoguz region. At the 2017 World Championships in the USA, the Turkmen athlete also won a silver medal in the sum of two exercises in the weight category up to 81 kg.
In April 2021, at the Asian Championships in Tashkent, in the weight category up to 89 kg, Rejepbay took the final third place with a result of 341 kilograms and became a bronze medalist.
In Bogota, Rejepbai shared the podium with Li Daiying (gold) from China and Kim Woo Jae (bronze) from South Korea.

The 87th World Weightlifting Championship takes place from 5 to 16 December 2022. It was scheduled to be held in Chongqing, China, but this changed in March 2022 as a result of China's COVID-19 response. Colombia is hosting the World Weightlifting Championships for the first time. The event is a qualifier for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France.
