The Schengen area is expanding for the first time in more than a decade. From January 1, 2023, Croatia will become a member of the Schengen Agreement.

The EU countries unanimously supported the inclusion of Croatia in the Schengen zone," Prime Minister of the Republic Andrei Plenkovich said on his page on the social network.

The European Parliament approved Croatia's entry into the Schengen area on November 10. 534 votes voted in favor, 53 members voted against, and another 25 abstained. The deputies of the European Commission recalled that Croatia fulfilled the necessary conditions for joining the Schengen area in December 2021.

Currently, the Schengen area includes 26 states: 22 EU states, as well as Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
