Issues of socio-economic integration of people with disabilities discussed in Ashgabat


On the eve of the International Day of Disabled People, which is celebrated on December 3, a round table dedicated to the socio-economic integration of people with disabilities in Turkmenistan was held in Ashgabat.
The participants discussed the legal foundations of the socio-economic integration of disabled people, the possibility of their employment and vocational education, the availability of medical services, as well as the role of public associations in promoting their rights and interests.
It was noted that the support of the Government of Turkmenistan, including through the adoption of relevant regulatory legal acts and amendments to national legislation, is the main condition for achieving the important task of socio-economic integration of disabled people.
Speaking to the audience, the head of the UNDP Program Department in Turkmenistan, Rovshen Nurmuhamedov, said that the promotion of the rights and integration of people with disabilities is not only a matter of justice, but also investment in the future. Therefore, ensuring their equal access to health care, education, employment, social services and participation in society is an essential task for all countries.
The event was organized within the framework of the project named "Accessible work for persons with disabilities in Turkmenistan: Transformation of social enterprises for educational opportunities and decent work", which is implemented by UNDP jointly with the Society of the Blind and Deaf of Turkmenistan with the financial support of the Global Development and Cooperation Fund "South-South". The project provides for such a model of employment of persons with disabilities in the open labor market of the country, which is aimed at increasing their employment opportunities and income.
