Central Asian Foreign Ministers to meet with Japanese Prime Minister on December 23
On November 24, Tokyo hosted the first meeting of the Japanese-Central Asian Parliamentary Friendship League, consisting of members of the Liberal Democratic Party. The parliamentary group headed by the vice-president of the ruling party of Japan, Taro Aso, was created to strengthen ties with five countries of the Central Asian region: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the Asahi newspaper writes.
“As part of the development of strategic diplomacy, we would like to hold regular meetings between the presidents and prime ministers of Central Asian countries,” said Taro Aso, speaking at the first meeting of the Japan-Central Asia Parliamentary Friendship League.
On December 23, the foreign ministers of the five Central Asian countries will visit Japan and meet with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Asahi reports. It is assumed that one of the topics of discussion may be the preparation of a meeting of the leaders of the states of Central Asia and Japan.
