Turkmenistan and the EU are interested in cooperating in preventing the spread of drugs

Turkmenistan and the European Union are showing mutual interest in strengthening cooperation within the framework of the Central Asia Drug Action Programme (CADAP-7).
CADAP Director Ernest Robello and Regional Head of EU Programs in Central Asia Cosimo Lamberti, who visited Turkmenistan on a working visit to discuss the country's further participation in the program, told ORIENT about this in an interview with a correspondent.
"The advantage of CADAP is that the European Union, through this initiative, provides the best knowledge of experts from the EU who work or may work in Central Asia," said Ernest Robello, head of the program. — This shows the interest of the EU member states in sharing knowledge and experience with Turkmenistan and the states of the region. In particular, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, and Portugal are showing interest in this."
Turkmenistan is also ready for active cooperation with the EU within the framework of CADAP, despite the fact that the country is not exposed to the risks associated with COVID-19, instability in Afghanistan and, consequently, changes in global drug trafficking. This was demonstrated by the meetings of the heads of European programs with representatives of the Ministries of Internal Affairs, Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan.
"We were pleased to see that Turkmenistan is interested in promoting regional cooperation to prevent issues related to drug trafficking, despite the fact that the country has not been influenced by recent events that have occurred in the world," said Cosimo Lamberti, regional Head of EU programs in Central Asia.
Currently, within the framework of cooperation between Turkmenistan and CADAP, the issue of studying modern threats associated with new types of narcotic substances is being worked out to prevent their possible penetration into the country. Among the promising steps of further cooperation are the development of new legislative acts and training of Turkmen specialists in the best European practices in the field of combating drug trafficking.
