The Mejlis of Turkmenistan has decided to implement administrative and territorial reform


The lower house of the Turkmen Parliament decided to implement the previously considered proposals on the administrative-territorial division of Turkmenistan to improve the territorial structure, taking into account the petitions of district, city and regional administrations and the Cabinet of Ministers of the country.
The text of the resolution approved by the chairman of the lower house of Parliament Gulshat Mammedova was published today by the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
According to the decree, a number of administrative-territorial units will be expanded, others will be abolished or changed in rights. The document provides for a description of the administrative territories of the regions. This is entrusted to the Ministry of Agriculture and regional administrations.
At the same time, the powers of members of people's assemblies and associations of the changed administrative-territorial units will remain for the period established by law at the time of their election.
This administrative-territorial reform is one of the largest in the history of independent Turkmenistan.
