Turkmen parliamentarians took part in the meeting of the IPA CIS Council in Samarkand


The Turkmen delegation headed by the Chairman of the Mejlis – the lower house of the national Parliament Gulshat Mammadova visited Samarkand on October 27-28, where she took part in the work of the 54th meeting of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS member States and events on the sidelines of the forum. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on Friday.
The plenary session was opened by the Chairman of the IPA CIS Council, the Head of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko. The heads of parliamentary delegations and partner organizations, honored guests also made greetings.

The main topic of the meeting was the legislative support of electoral processes - elections and referendums in the CIS states.
In her speech, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammadova noted that regular meetings and dialogue of the heads of our states stimulate the development of purposeful and mutually beneficial cooperation between the countries in various fields.

She added that in modern conditions, the development of inter-parliamentary ties plays an increasing role in the harmonization of legislation, the exchange of experience in legislative practice, as well as in strengthening environmental, humanitarian and cultural cooperation. Promoting the philosophy of "Dialogue is a guarantee of peace", Turkmenistan today focuses on energy and transport diplomacy.

The participants of the 54th plenary session reviewed a number of model documents on electoral topics: the law "On International Observation of Elections and Referendums", a new edition of Recommendations for international Observers from the CIS on Election and Referendum Observation, Recommendations on the Use of Automation Technology in Elections and Referendums, Recommendations on Countering Foreign Interference in National Elections and referendums.

In addition, the legislators considered draft laws related to security, economic development, state construction, education, culture, information and other important areas.
In Samarkand, Gulshat Mammadova also met separately with the chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Mejlis – the upper chamber of the Uzbek parliament, Tanzila Narbayeva. They discussed the development of inter-parliamentary relations both between the two countries and within the CIS. The importance of parliamentary diplomacy in the further expansion of interstate cooperation was noted.
