CIS Summit: development of common approaches to ensure water security

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed to make specific recommendations on the efficient and mutually beneficial use of transboundary water resources at a closed meeting of the Council of CIS Heads of State in Astana on Friday, the press service of the President of Kazakhstan said.
In almost all Commonwealth countries, the provision of water resources is hampered by climate change. It was noted that this problem is relevant for all countries and the time has come to develop common approaches to the issue of water security throughout the CIS.
“We are dealing with this issue within the framework of various international formats, are looking for mutually acceptable solutions on a bilateral basis and are developing common approaches to ensure water security. I propose to the CIS Executive Committee to make specific recommendations on the efficient and mutually beneficial use of transboundary water resources,” the President of Kazakhstan said.
