The CIS summit ended with the signing of joint documents


The meeting of the Council of the CIS Heads of State, held in Astana on Friday, continued in an expanded format.
The summit, chaired by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, was attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as well as Chairman of the Executive Committee CIS Sergey Lebedev and Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.
At the expanded meeting, the heads of state agreed to immediately proceed to the procedure of signing official documents, according to the Akorda website.

During the signing, Tokayev announced that the issue of renaming the position of the CIS Executive Secretary to the position of the CIS Secretary General was discussed in a narrow format. The President of Kazakhstan said that yesterday it was decided to rename the position of the CICA Executive Secretary to the position of Secretary General. Previously, the position of the SCO Executive Secretary was also renamed the position of the Secretary General.
"In principle, it is important to increase the status of the position of the head of the executive body," the President of Kazakhstan added.
Summing up the meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed the effectiveness of the summit:
– We have every reason to say that our meeting was productive. Moreover, in addition to the adoption of documents, the heads of delegations held, in my opinion, a very useful discussion on a wide range of multifaceted cooperation within the CIS, as well as on the international agenda. The constructive proposals made at the same time, along with the documents considered, will undoubtedly serve to further develop and improve cooperation in the CIS space.
Sergey Lebedev and Valentina Matvienko also spoke at the expanded meeting.
Chairman of the Council of CIS Heads of State, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev presented the Diploma of the Commonwealth of Independent States to the Chairman of the Interstate TV and Radio Company "Mir" Radik Batyrshin.
Following the meeting, the heads of state signed a statement on the development of cooperation in the field of culture. A number of documents aimed at further development of the Commonwealth have also been adopted.
The leaders of the CIS member states supported the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin to declare 2025 the year of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
