Bishkek to take over CIS chairmanship in 2023


The CIS Heads of State Summit, which opened on Friday in Astana, continued its work behind closed doors. In a narrow format, the leaders of the states exchanged views on all topical issues of further cooperation, and also outlined the main priorities, Kazpravda.kz reports.
At the meeting, the parties approved the agenda and regulations, and also exchanged views on issues of interaction within the CIS, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at an expanded meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS Member States. The issue of chairmanship in the Commonwealth was also considered - by unanimous decision of the heads of delegations in 2023, Kyrgyzstan will take the chairmanship of the CIS, where the CIS Council - 2023 will be held in Bishkek on October 13 next year, he noted.
By decision of the Council of Heads of State, the powers of the current chairman of the CIS executive committee were extended for another three-year period. Recall that the current Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States is Sergei Lebedev.
