President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov, who arrived in Ashgabat to celebrate the Independence Day of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the state and prospects of cooperation. The Turkmen leader noted the focus on expanding the dialogue with the Russian Federation, its regions, including St. Petersburg. This was reported in the evening news of the Turkmen television.

Measures were discussed to implement the plans outlined in the Roadmap of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation in trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian fields for 2020-2025.

Energy, transport and communication complex, construction and infrastructure, shipbuilding and the field of high technologies were named among the priority areas of cooperation. Turkmenistan is also ready to supply agricultural products, textiles and petrochemical group goods to St. Petersburg.

The issues of participation of St. Petersburg companies in the implementation of projects in Turkmenistan, prospects for humanitarian cooperation were discussed at the meeting. Alexander Beglov thanked Serdar Berdimuhamedov for his great attention to strengthening relations with the northern capital of Russia and participation in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum this year.

Within the framework of Beglov's visit to Ashgabat, he met with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, at which cooperation in the fields of urban planning and industry, prospects for joint projects in the energy sector were discussed.

They also discussed the possibility of creating a St. Petersburg Trading House in Ashgabat, expanding partnership in the field of secondary special and higher education. This is stated on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

In 2021, the volume of exports from St. Petersburg to Turkmenistan increased by almost 50%, and this trend needs to be supported, Alexander Beglov noted. The Governor of St. Petersburg also noted the issues of preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War and supporting veterans. Thus, it is planned to erect a monument "Friendship" in Ashgabat, which will be dedicated to the residents of besieged Leningrad evacuated to Turkmenistan.

The Governor of St. Petersburg also noted a number of other areas of cooperation, including those related to road construction, IT technologies, training in engineering specialties, creating communication platforms for schoolchildren to communicate and conducting joint lessons in schools of St. Petersburg and Turkmenistan.
