President Serdar Berdimuhamedov declared Turkmenistan's readiness to cooperate with the Shanghai Security Cooperation Organization, speaking at the SCO summit in Samarkand as a guest of honor, official Turkmen media reported.

– Our country is ready to cooperate with the SCO, building multifaceted, flexible forms and schemes of interaction in politics, in the field of security, in the economy, trade and investment, in the cultural and humanitarian direction, – the Turkmen leader said.

The head of state stressed that Turkmenistan sees the SCO as one of the most important pillars of continental stability and expresses its readiness to establish a closer and more substantive political and diplomatic dialogue with the organization.

Among the areas in which Turkmenistan and the SCO could cooperate, Serdar Berdimuhamedov named the fight against terrorism and extremism, organized crime, drug trafficking and other types of illegal activities.
