Foreign Transport Ministers – for the development of regional projects with Turkmenistan


Mammetkhan Chakyev, Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, held a round of bilateral talks with the heads of delegations of the Ministerial Conference of Landlocked Developing Countries on Monday.

In particular, he discussed the prospects of cooperation with the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE Suhail Al-Mazroui, the Minister of Transport of Uzbekistan Ilhom Mahkamov, and the Minister of Transport of Tajikistan Azim Ibrohim. Chakyev also met with Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Shahriar Afandizadeh.

The leaders assessed the state and potential of expanding transport and transit networking between the states, the possibility of implementing regional projects in various geographical areas, including involving Afghanistan, and more fully utilizing the capacities of the Turkmenbashi port in the Caspian Sea.

The agenda of the meetings also included issues of simplification of transport and transit procedures, elimination of administrative barriers in the transportation of goods, unification and harmonization of tariffs and duties to facilitate and accelerate cross-border operations.

The parties agreed to continue working meetings at the level of representatives of transport organizations on a regular basis to discuss emerging issues.
