President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the Central Asian summit on Thursday, in the Kyrgyz city of Cholpon-Ata, named the main security threats in the region.

The Turkmen leader noted that in the year since the previous meeting in this format, the world has changed significantly, new realities and challenges have also affected Central Asia, where the issue of security has become more acute.

Among the main threats, Serdar Berdimuhamedov singled out attempts to undermine internal political stability in the countries of the region, as well as attempts to infiltrate extremist and radical elements into Central Asia.

The possible negative impact of the military-political confrontation taking place in relative proximity to our borders requires us to form protective mechanisms so that Central Asia does not turn into an arena of confrontation, the President of Turkmenistan urged.

Along with this, he attributed the conflict potential within the Central Asian region itself to security threats.

Cybercrime, abuse of information technologies, and the imposition of ideas and attitudes from the outside that contradict the traditions of the peoples of the region and national values are also a threat, Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.

According to the Head of Turkmenistan, it is necessary to jointly and resolutely confront these challenges, creating a solid and indivisible security system of the region in order to preserve Central Asia as a territory of stability and trust, not subject to risks to peace and progress.
