Ashgabat honored the memory of Shinzo Abe


A memorial event in honor of the tragically deceased ex-Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe was held in Ashgabat on Monday, July 11. Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the ceremony and on behalf of the head of state gave “kurbanlyk-sadaka” (commemorative meal) in accordance with Turkmen customs.

The ritual dinner was held at the Arkadag Hotel, where members of the Cabinet of Ministers, other leaders, representatives of foreign diplomatic missions and international organizations also gathered.

Speaking at the event, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Shinzo Abe occupied a worthy place among prominent politicians and statesmen of our time, had great authority in the international arena.

As head of the Japanese government, Abe devotedly served the interests of his country, maintained balanced and mutually respectful relations with other states, and made a significant contribution to the friendly relations and fruitful cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who repeatedly personally met with Shinzo Abe, also emphasized his high human qualities. The people of Turkmenistan, together with the Japanese people, are experiencing this heavy loss and will keep the bright memory of this wonderful person in their hearts, the head of the Upper House of the Parliament said.

Then, all those present honored the memory of Shinzo Abe with a minute of silence.

After that, a prayer was read and a memorial meal was given, which ended with the corresponding religious rites.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed his condolences and sympathy to the Japanese people, who took part in the event, to the Ambassador of Japan in Ashgabat and asked him to convey condolences to Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on behalf of the President of Turkmenistan, and also to convey words of empathy and support to the family of Shinzo Abe on behalf of himself and his family.

On Monday, a farewell ceremony was held in Tokyo for former Prime Minister Abe. At the request of the family of the deceased in the assassination attempt on July 8, the farewell is held in a narrow circle, according to the Kyodo agency. In the homeland of the politician's ancestors in the city of Shimonoseki (Yamaguchi Prefecture), an altar will be set up for laying flowers. The funeral ceremony and cremation will take place the next day.
