A meeting on Afghanistan of special representatives of the Central Asian countries and the European Union, as well as the UN, took place on Tuesday in Almaty.

The event's extensive agenda included an overview of current and new challenges to regional security in Afghanistan. The conference participants reaffirmed their common desire for a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan. The sides discussed in detail their national contribution to the provision of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, as well as proposals for joint implementation of bilateral and regional programs.

Turkmenistan was represented at the meeting by Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hadjiev. He highlighted the main aspects of Turkmenistan's policy towards Afghanistan, including the ongoing TAPI project and constructive dialogue with the current Afghan authorities.

Representatives of the EU and the UN informed the conference participants about the current situation in Afghanistan and the measures being taken to provide humanitarian and economic assistance to the Afghan people. In this context, the participants welcomed the extension of the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).

During the event, Vepa Hadjiev met with the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Afghanistan, Head of UNAMA Deborah Lyons, discussing international and bilateral efforts to assist Afghanistan.
