The delegation of Turkmenistan headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vepa Khadzhiev took part in the next round of the High-Level Dialogue "European Union – Central Asia" on political and security issues, held on Tuesday in Brussels.

At the meeting, the parties outlined positions on issues of regional and global stability, including common security challenges, including the situation in Afghanistan.

There was paid attention to the preparations for the High-Level Conference of the countries of Central Asia and the EU on interconnection, scheduled for July 26 in Samarkand.

During the discussion of the threats that pose a hazard to the sustainable development of the Central Asian region, the Turkmen side stressed that Ashgabat continues to make every possible use of the potential of neutrality to support political and diplomatic efforts to resolve disputes and conflict situations in international relations.

It was proposed to more actively involve UN specialized agencies in the joint fight against global challenges, in particular terrorism, extremism, cross-border organized crime, drug and arms trafficking, and human trafficking.

Concerning interregional cooperation on Afghanistan issues, the delegation of Turkmenistan emphasized that the work on the development of trade and economic relations, the promotion of key infrastructure projects in Afghanistan, the normal functioning of financial institutions should not be held hostage to slow actions on the political and diplomatic track.

As part of the visit to Brussels, the Turkmen delegation held the day before, on May 16, bilateral meetings with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, the Secretary General of the Energy Charter Secretariat, the Managing Director for Russia, the Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, regional cooperation and the OSCE of the European External Action Service.
