Penalties for speeding have been tightened in Turkmenistan


The size of fines for violation of traffic rules by drivers and pedestrians has been increased, according to the additions and amendments to the Code of Turkmenistan on Administrative Offenses published today.
From today, the penalty for exceeding the permitted maximum speed by more than 30, but not more than 50 km/h will be increased from two to three sizes of the base value*. For repeated violation, the penalty will be five sizes of the base value.
*(Approx. the size of the base amount for fines today is 100 manats).
For exceeding the speed limit by 50 km / h, the amount of the fine will be increased from five sizes of the base value to seven. Repeated violation will entail deprivation of rights for a period of three months.
Violation of traffic rules in the form of creating an emergency situation that forced other vehicles to dramatically change speed, direction of movement or take other measures will now be punishable by a fine of seven sizes of the base value.
Pedestrians for violating traffic rules and disobeying priority signs, road markings or traffic light signals will be fined 0.4 of the base value (previously 0.2). A fine of one basic value is provided for repeated violation.
Parents or legal guardians of teenagers under the age of 16 who have violated traffic rules as pedestrians face a fine of 0.4 of the base value.
In addition, in accordance with the amendments to the Code, a fine of two basic units is imposed for repeated violation of the ban on smoking in public places. The first violation provides for a fine in the amount of one basic value.
