Flowers laid at the monument to the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War in Ashgabat
The Ashgabat memorial complex "People's Memory" (Halk hakydasy) today became the venue for the main festive events on the occasion of Victory Day. Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, head of the Mejlis Gulshat Mammedova, parliamentarians and representatives of other organizations, public associations, foreign diplomats took part in the celebrations.
The main heroes of the celebration are veterans of the Great Patriotic War. It is them who salute the soldiers of the guard of honor.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, in a conversation with the elders, noted the importance of the May 9 holiday for preserving the memory of the feat of arms and and labor of the Turkmen people who contributed to the Victory. On behalf of the President of Turkmenistan and on his own behalf, the head of the Halk Maslakhaty expressed great gratitude to the veterans, representatives of the older generation and everyone including the ambassadors of other states, who came to pay tribute to the heroism of the soldiers.
In response, doyen of the diplomatic corps in Turkmenistan, Russian Ambassador Alexander Blokhin also congratulated President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty and the entire Turkmen people on Victory Day. “We are grateful to Turkmenistan for the memory of those who gave their lives for the country and our former joint Fatherland, who defeated fascism,” the plenipotentiary said.
Then, a solemn ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the foot of the monument to the Turkmen soldiers who fell on the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War took place.
Such ceremonies were held today throughout Turkmenistan. On May 9, in honor of the holiday, concerts and other events were organized.
