Russian delegation discusses in Ashgabat strengthening cooperation with Turkmenistan


On Saturday, Ashgabat hosted a meeting between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Overchuk, who arrived in the Turkmen capital at the head of the government delegation of the Russian Federation.
The parties stressed that the trade, economic and fuel and energy sectors, as well as agriculture, light and processing industry, and transport and communications are the key areas for developing cooperation between the countries.
The interlocutors paid special attention to the issues of cooperation in the field of the development of the Caspian Sea, and in particular - the possibility of cooperation in the field of shipbuilding.
The delegation of the Russian Federation also held a series of meetings in the ministries and sectoral departments of Turkmenistan, where they discussed ways to strengthen the Turkmen-Russian partnership in energy, logistics, construction, geology, as well as cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
During the talks, the possibilities of promoting new trade formats were discussed, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation told reporters. He also added that work is already underway at the regional level to open trade houses of Turkmenistan in a number of regions of Russia.
The Russian Federation also showed interest in cargo transportation through the international seaport of the city of Turkmenbashi, on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea. The reason for this is the fact that today this port is becoming an important component of the international North-South transport corridor.
