Turkmenistan intends to hold an international forum on the role of bicycles in the ecology of the city


Turkmenistan is ready to host an international conference on the role of the bicycle in ensuring the sustainability and environmental friendliness of urban transport systems. This was stated by Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov at a briefing on Monday.
The topic of the briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan was the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the resolution "Integrating mass cycling into public transport systems for sustainable development" and the election of Turkmenistan as a member of the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) for 2022-2028.
According to Rashid Meredov, by the beginning of 2022, 17 UN General Assembly resolutions were adopted, sponsored by Turkmenistan, 16 of them over the past 15 years. The current resolution, which calls for the promotion of healthy lifestyles, the development of ecological modes of transport and the improvement of road safety, was co-sponsored by 62 states.

Turkmenistan also carries out active international activities within the framework of the UN system, being currently a member of 11 councils, commissions, and committees of the Organization.
The briefing was attended by the leadership and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, heads of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations working in Turkmenistan, representatives of local media.
Special Representative of the UN Secretary General, Head of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia German, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko, Head of the WHO Country Office Yegor Zaitsev and others also addressed them.
