The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will hold the 48th session of its Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad on March 22-23, and the situation in Afghanistan is on the agenda of this meeting.

The OIC said this is the second ministerial meeting aimed at advancing the organization's efforts in Afghanistan. In December 2021, an extraordinary meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers was held, during which the political, economic and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan was discussed.

The OIC stated that the organization has taken steps to mobilize support from the international community in support of the people of Afghanistan.

Following the OIC's extraordinary meeting on Afghanistan last year, it opened an office in Kabul and introduced a special envoy to coordinate the organization's humanitarian efforts in the country.

On the eve of the current meeting, the head of the OIC, Hussein Ibrahim Taha, signed on March 21, the charter of the Humanitarian Trust Fund for Afghanistan, established under the auspices of the Islamic Development Bank. Its creation was one of the key outcomes of the 17th Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC.

State Councilor, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi will attend the ministerial meeting as a special guest.

It will also be attended by dignitaries from non-OIC countries, representatives of the UN system, regional and international organizations, including the League of Arab States and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Earlier, the preparations for the 48th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers discussed by the Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Pakistan. Rashid Meredov and Mahmud Qureishi noted the importance of this forum for strengthening cooperation in solving topical issues of regional and international problems.

Particular attention was paid to the practical issues of implementing the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline projects and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power lines and fiber-optic communications.
