Festive audience of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General with the head of Turkmenistan
On Thursday, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Special Representative of the UN Secretary General Natalya German, head of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA).
The parties discussed a wide range of issues regarding cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations, the successes achieved along this path, the presidential elections in the country scheduled for March 12, and a number of other topics.
The conversation was of a business nature, touching upon the issues of strengthening cooperation, stability and security in the Central Asian region with the involvement of the potential of international organizations, primarily UN structures. However, despite the relevance of the topics discussed, the meeting was painted in festive tones in connection with the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's accession to the UN.
As for cooperation, the parties were unanimous in their opinion that Turkmenistan and the United Nations are fruitfully cooperating in many areas, including areas such as energy, transport and water diplomacy, in addressing socio-economic, cultural, humanitarian and environmental issues, the implementation of the SDGs.
An important topic of negotiations between the Turkmen leader and the head of UNRCCA was the presidential elections, for the transparent and democratic conduct of which the necessary conditions are being created in the country.
The head of state stated that, in addition to national observers, monitoring of the process of free will of the people will be carried out by independent observers from a number of foreign countries, as well as international organizations - the OSCE, SCO, CIS and the Organization of Turkic States.
The President of Turkmenistan, in order to objectively assess the electoral process, invited experts from the United Nations to take part.
And the festive tone of the meeting was given by the anniversary date - 30 years ago, Turkmenistan became a full member of the United Nations, on which Natalya German congratulated the head of state, the government and the Turkmen people, handing President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov a letter of congratulations from UN Secretary General António Guterres.
In turn, during the reception, the Turkmen leader told the head of the Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy that in a short period of time UNRCCA has established itself as an effective platform that closely links the UN with the states of the region. And this year the Center, headquartered in Ashgabat, is celebrating its 15th anniversary, on which the head of the Turkmen state congratulated Natalya German.
