Serdar Berdimuhamedov nominated for President of Turkmenistan


Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov has been nominated as a candidate for the presidency of Turkmenistan. This happened at the ninth extraordinary congress of the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan. Serdar Berdimuhamedov addressed the congress participants, who supported his candidacy.
In accordance with the decision of the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan, on February 14, the first stage of the election campaign for early presidential elections in the country began - the nomination of candidates. Elections are scheduled for March 12, 2022.
A citizen of at least 40 years of age who was born in the country can become the President of Turkmenistan. He must know the state language, as well as for the previous 15 years he must permanently reside and work in his homeland. The President is elected for a term of 7 years.
In accordance with the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan, the right to nominate candidates belongs to political parties registered before the day the elections are called, as well as to groups of citizens.
Political parties nominate presidential candidates at their congresses. There are 3 political parties in Turkmenistan - the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, the Agrarian Party of Turkmenistan and the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
The Democratic Party of Turkmenistan is the oldest political party in the country. It was established in 1991.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov was born on September 22, 1981. Graduated from the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S. A. Niyazov with a degree in engineer-technologist.
In 2008-2011 studied at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry and became a specialist in international relations. In 2011-2013 studied in Geneva at the Center for Security Policy and became a specialist in European and international security.
In March 2018, Serdar Berdimuhamedov was appointed Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan. Then he was re-elected to the Parliament of Turkmenistan. In January 2019, Serdar Berdimuhamedov was relieved of his post as Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan and appointed Deputy Head of the Akhal Region Administration.
In June 2019, he was appointed the hyakim of this velayat. Since February 2020, Serdar Berdimuhamedov served as Minister of Industry and Construction Production of Turkmenistan. Since February 2021, he has been working as Deputy Prime Minister.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov also heads the International Association of Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding and the International Association "Turkmen Alabai".
