Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and China discuss upcoming meetings of leaders of the two countries


Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, accompanied by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on a visit to China, met on Friday with Chinese Foreign Minister Van I. The diplomats discussed preparations for the summit.
Wang Yi said China attaches great importance and welcomes President Berdimuhamedov's participation in the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics, which reflects the strong bilateral relations between China and Turkmenistan and the deep friendship between the two heads of state.

Tomorrow, President Xi Jinping will meet with President Berdimuhamedov. This is the first full-time meeting of the two heads of state in four years, which will play an important role in bilateral relations and outline the course of their future development.
The Chinese side is ready to make joint efforts to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and to promote cooperation between China and Turkmenistan in key areas such as energy.
Meredov congratulated the Chinese people on the start of the traditional Spring Festival and the grand opening of the Winter Olympics in Beijing. He noted that in recent years friendly relations between Turkmenistan and China have gained strong dynamics due to the high level of mutual trust between the two heads of state and expressed deepening cooperation in various fields and raising bilateral relations to a new level.

The parties agreed to promote the implementation of the five-year plan of cooperation between the two governments, to strengthen the link between the Chinese Belt and Road project and the Turkmen initiative to revive the Silk Road, as well as to deepen cooperation in health care, health, and natural gas.
The ministers also exchanged views on cooperation between China and the five Central Asian countries and on the Afghan issue. China offers to hold a third meeting of foreign ministers of neighboring countries with Afghanistan, while continuing to work to maintain peace and stability in the region.
