Turkmenistan will take part in the 8th ministerial meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council, which will be held on Friday, February 4 in Baku.

The meeting will be attended by European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi, high-ranking representatives of the United States, Great Britain, Turkey, Georgia, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Albania, Croatia, Hungary, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Moldova, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine, reports AZERTAC.

Representatives of major energy companies and financial institutions such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and other organizations will be join the event.

The 8th Ministerial Meeting of the SGC Advisory Council will include plenary sessions on "Southern Gas Corridor: Achievements and Prospects - Expanding SGC into New Energy Markets Including the Western Balkans" and "Energy Transition - From Fossil Fuels and Methane", "Measures to Reduce Carbon Emissions to Carbon Neutrality: Pathways, Challenges and Flextime".

Ashgabat, as a rule, takes part in all meetings on the Southern Gas Corridor. According to experts, Turkmenistan is a potential supplier of natural gas to the European energy market through the Southern Gas Corridor.

This topic has gained particular relevance after the signing of a memorandum between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan on the joint development of the Dostluk oil and gas field in the Caspian Sea, as well as the signing of a trilateral agreement on swap gas supplies between Turkmenistan, Iran and Azerbaijan.
