Members of the government of Turkmenistan met with the President of Iran


Members of the government of Turkmenistan - Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi today.
Having conveyed greetings from President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, they discussed with the head of Iran the political, diplomatic, economic, and cultural aspects of interstate cooperation.
As the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan notes, the talks stressed the importance of the meeting of the two presidents held in Ashgabat in November 2021, which gave a great impetus to the further development of the dialogue.
In Tehran, the Turkmen delegation also met with the First Vice-President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Mohber, discussing with him issues on the bilateral agenda, including interaction in the field of the fuel and energy complex.
The day before, on Saturday, Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the Minister of Transport and Urban Development of Iran Rostam Kasemi.
According to Tehran times, Gasemi mentioned the agreements reached between the two sides during the meeting of the Joint Economic Committee, in particular, the daily exchange of 400 freight wagons at the Serakhs border crossing. Gasemi said that good progress has been made in this agreement, adding: "We can also increase this exchange."
Referring to the transit of goods from Turkmenistan to India and southern countries via Iran, Ghasemi said: "I think this will have very good economic consequences for both countries."
Ghasemi said connecting the railways and rail transit of the two countries could bring Iran and Turkmenistan billions of dollars a year and many benefits.
Tehran times also quoted Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who highlighted the determination of the authorities of the two countries to expand ties in various fields, saying: "Despite the problems in 2021, we saw an 84 percent increase in the volume of trade between Iran and Turkmenistan compared to 2020."

On Saturday, another meeting of the Turkmen delegation took place with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir Abdollahiyan. According to ISNA, the parties discussed joint cooperation in the spheres of economy, trade, energy, transport, and transit.
Also, taking into account the upcoming visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Iran, they discussed the documents to be signed during the negotiations at the highest level.
