Vaccination Against Coronavirus Has Started in Tajikistan


Tajik leader Emomali Rahmon signed a government decree on the start of vaccination of country’s citizens against coronavirus. First of all, representatives of vulnerable groups of the population will be vaccinated, the press service of the President of Tajikistan reports. As part of the COVAX program, 192 thousand doses of the COVISHIELD vaccine were delivered from India to Tajikistan on March 8. This is the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, produced in India and registered by the WHO. Earlier, the country’s Deputy Minister of Health, Samariddin Alizoda informed that the COVAX program provides for vaccination of 20% of the population. In general, under this program Tajikistan will receive 624 thousand doses of vaccines. Tajikistan also intends to register the Russian Sputnik and the Chinese CoronaVac vaccines. According to the Deputy Minister, citizens of Tajikistan will be able to choose which one to be vaccinated with. Vaccines will be done voluntarily and free of charge.
