Turkmenistan aims to expand cooperation with Russia and its regions - President


Expanding cooperation with Russia, its regions and large industrial centers is one of the main vectors of Turkmenistan's foreign policy, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said during a meeting with Governor of the Astrakhan Region of the Russian Federation Igor Babushkin on Thursday.

Then the President and his guest discussed the state and vision of further development of cooperation. According to Berdimuhamedov, the existing close ties make it possible to develop new formats of partnership, taking into account common interests and requirements of the time.

In the context of transport and transit interaction, the possibility of using the capacities of the International Seaport and launching regular passenger and cargo flights between the ports of the Caspian states, including the Russian port of Olya, was considered.
Petrochemistry and shipbuilding, the development of direct contacts between business communities and companies in Turkmenistan and Astrakhan were identified as promising areas of cooperation.

The head of state also paid attention to the humanitarian sphere, in which the sides have developed good traditions of interaction. An example of this is a modern school built by Turkmenistan in one of the villages where the largest diaspora of Turkmens lives in the region, and the opening of the monument to Makhtumkuli Fraghi in Astrakhan.
Babushkin announced the readiness of the region to expand educational ties with Turkmenistan, students of which study at many Astrakhan universities.
The meeting was also attended by Russian Ambassador to Ashgabat Alexander Blokhin.
