Afghanistan to take part in peace talks in Moscow and Istanbul

The Afghan government will send its delegations to the peacebuilding meetings to be held in Moscow and Istanbul. This was reported by Afghan National Security Adviser Hamdullah Muhib at a briefing in Kabul. According to him, the government is currently preparing to participate in these international meetings. The composition of the delegation that will represent the Afghan government at the two meetings has yet to be determined. The Supreme National Reconciliation Council of Afghanistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continue to work in this direction, Muhib said. The meetings on Afghanistan will be held in Russia on March 18th, and in Turkey in April. The United States reached a peace deal with the Taliban on February 29th, 2020, and inter-Afghan talks kicked off last September in the Qatari capital. The second phase of inter-Afghan talks, which began on January 6th in Doha, was suspended after a Taliban delegation went on a tour of the region on January 26th. Negotiations resumed on 22nd February.
