Turkmenistan and FAO will join forces in the field of agriculture and ecology


During a government meeting on Tuesday, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the proposal of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov to open a representative office of FAO - the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations - in Turkmenistan.
The Deputy Prime Minister made proposals on the preparation of the FAO Program for Turkmenistan for 2022-2025, as well as on the implementation of a number of joint projects in such areas as agriculture, ecology and climate change.
The head of the foreign ministry also put forward a number of other proposals for the Turkmen leader's consideration:
on the conclusion of an agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations;
on the accession of Turkmenistan to the FAO Central Asian project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by increasing efficiency in animal husbandry;
on the joint implementation of a project for the development of cotton growing through the modernization of technologies that contribute to an increase in the volume of mechanized cotton picking, interaction in the field of scientific selection, digitalization and other areas.
At present, Turkmenistan, together with FAO, is implementing 5 projects of regional significance.
