The President of Turkmenistan takes part in the summit of the leaders of the Turkic Council

The heads of the member states of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking states met in Istanbul, which hosts the 8th summit of the organization.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban and Secretary General of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States Baghdad Amareev.
Together they took part in the opening ceremony of the new building of the Secretariat of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States.
Then the heads of state went to the island of Democracy and Freedom in the Sea of Marmara to participate in the summit, the most important event of which is the participation of Turkmenistan as an observer member.
Council Secretary General Baghdad Amreev visited Ashgabat several months ago and met with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov to discuss Turkmenistan's participation in the Council.
As a result of successful cooperation, a decision on the participation of Turkmenistan as an observer was unanimously adopted, and then a congratulatory letter was sent to President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev as the head of the chair country in the organization in 2020. He noted that with the accession of Turkmenistan, the Turkic Council turned into an important institution that "promotes the unity and fruitful activity of the Turkic-speaking peoples and countries with common cultural roots and common history."
