Muslims in the United Arab Emirates should perform Taraweeh prayers at home, as well as the five obligatory prayers, during the holy month of Ramadan this year, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department of Dubai said. Earlier, it was informed, Ramadan is expected to begin on April 24 and to last 30 days. It was said Eid Al Fitr prayers should be at home if mosques remain closed due to quarantine. In Dubai, more than 800 mosques undergo a disinfection as part of the round-the-clock sterilization programme in Dubai aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19 that was extended until April 25. Taraweeh prayers are special prayers during Ramadan that are conducted after every Isha prayer, the last night prayer. It cannot be performed after the dawn has broken. The taraweeh is performed before the witr prayer. Traditionally, Taraweeh prayer is performed both individually and in a group. The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department of Dubai clarified that Tawareeh prayers can be made at home during Ramadan and it would be the same as it would if the prayers were carried out in mosques. In addition, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has announced the launch of a “10 million meals campaign” promising “no one in the UAE will starve due to the coronavirus outbreak”. The nation’s biggest food distribution drive to support low-income families and individuals affected by the coronavirus pandemic across the UAE, was launched under the directives of Sheikh Mohammed and his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Food Bank. Meals or equivalent food parcels will be distributed during the holy month of Ramadan for individuals and needy families. The “10 million meals” campaign is aimed to reinforce social solidarity and cohesion in the UAE to enable to emerge from the global crisis stronger. The public, private and humanitarian sectors are united today to empower the needy people to overcome the global crisis. Sheikh Mohammed noted: “A crisis that showed the authenticity of our country and the spirit of our society.” Prime Minister of the UAE reassured residents of the UAE that “no one will get sick, and no one will be in need, and no one will starve in UAE without everyone caring and helping out.” Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum shared a motivating video of uniting the world to fight against the coronavirus, with the message “We Will Win.” At time when all international sport events cancelled, the inspiring video prepares us to stand up as one against coronavirus disease. “We’ll still have our Most Valuable Players and star players,” it added, describing the health workers, doctors, police, and emergency service members who have given up everything to join the battle against coronavirus. The video also showed the UAE residents cheering the frontline workers from the balconies. The speaker in the video said, “The whole world is playing from one side, we are one team. This is our home ground, this is our World Cup and we will win.” It is also reported that the Red Crescent Organization in the UAE will take care of the families of deceased individuals who died of COVID-19 complications. As of April 20, the UAE has 6,781 coronavirus cases with 41 deaths. Frontline medical workers are permitted not to fast while on duty if they fear that fasting could lead to the weakening of their immune system or to losing their patients. The United Arab Emirates today sent an aid plane containing 7 metric tons of medical supplies to the Republic of South Africa to bolster the country’s efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19. To date, the UAE has responded to the COVID-19 crisis by providing over 260 tons of medical aid to 24 countries in need, supporting more than 260,000 medical professionals in the process.
