Mufti of Uzbekistan declares fatwa on holding the month of Ramadan during the quarantine period


Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, Mufti Usmonkhon Alimov, on the air of Uzbekistan 24 channel, announced a fatwa about holding the month of Ramadan during the quarantine period. “The Office of Muslims of Uzbekistan has studied the situation in neighboring and foreign countries for the month of Ramadan. In particular, in the Arab Republic of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation, statements were made that Tarawih-namaz will not be performed in mosques and collective iftars will be canceled. This issue was discussed with the spiritual administrations of the Muslims of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, and a common decision was adopted,” Usmonkhon Alimov said. In order to prevent violation of quarantine requirements during Ramadan, Ulema Council of Muslim Board of Uzbekistan has adopted the fatwa that urges all Muslims to abide by the following guidelines: - to perform Tarawih-prayers and khatm Quran at home, khatm Quran will also be broadcast online with the participation of hafiz, operating in the system of Office of Muslims of Uzbekistan; - do not hold collective iftars, transfer funds intended for iftar ceremonies to families in need of financial support through the “Sponsorship Coordination Center”; - it is recommended to transfer funds of zakat, fid and zakat-al-fitr to the accounts of the Charitable Public Fund “Vaqf” and its territorial divisions. Mufti Usmonkhon Alimov also announced the holding of regular programs on the month of Ramadan in television and social networks. Let us recall, on March 16, chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, Mufti Usmonkhon Alimov, announced a fatwa on a temporary ban on Friday prayers in mosques.
