World Bank Supports Countries Against COVID-19

The World Bank is launching its first emergency operations in developing countries to combat the spread of coronavirus. Over the next 15 months, the World Bank Group will provide up to $ 160 billion to governments and companies to rebuild the economy and support businesses. The first aid package totaling $ 1.9 billion covers 25 countries; subsequent projects cover another 40 countries. In addition, banking groups are working on the reallocation of funds in the amount of $ 1.7 billion from existing projects. First of all, these funds will be aimed at strengthening the health care system, attracting more medical personnel and its good training. In some countries, funding will increase citizens' awareness of the prevention of infectious diseases, equip primary care facilities so that they can work in accordance with the standards necessary to combat the pandemic. World Bank President David Malpass noted the important role that World Bank Groups can play in reducing the spread of COVID-19. In Pakistan, Bank support will be critical to providing distance learning for the millions of children currently studying at home.
