E-Sports are included in the program of 2021 Asian Games
E-Sports will be officially included in the 2021 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Program to be held in Bangkok and Pattaya, Thailand. This was stated by representatives of the Asian Electronic Sports Federation following a meeting with the organizers of the Games.
At the Asian Games in 2017 in Ashgabat, e-Sports were presented as demonstration performances. These were also in the same format at the 18th Summer Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Participants competed in four categories of video games: Dota-2 (team computer game), Hearthstone (card online game), StarCraft II (game in the genre of real-time strategy) and King of Fighters XIV. It should be noted that the inclusion of e-Sports in the program of demonstration performances of the 2017 Asian Games in Ashgabat gave an impetus to development of computer sports in Turkmenistan. The National Electronic Sports Federation of Turkmenistan (TMeSF) is a member of the Asian Federation, which opens up great opportunities for e-Sports people to participate in international competitions and exchange experiences.
Recently, the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) and the International Electronic Sports Federation (IESF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote e-Sports on the Asian continent and throughout the world.
- Jointly, the two federations will promote development of e-sports and its recognition as a sports event, International Electronic Sports Federation President Colin Webster said.
In turn, his Asian colleague Kenneth Fok noted that this partnership will contribute to bringing together the entire e-Sports community, including publishers, organizations and, most importantly, players.
